Food preservative
Propionic acid is better than benzoic acid in preventing fungi and moulds at pH 6.0 or below, and the price is lower than sorbic acid, so it is one of the ideal food preservatives, thus it has a huge potential market as a food preservative in China.
Herbicide
In the pesticide industry, propionic acid can be used for the production of propionamide, which in turn can produce some herbicide varieties. According to the development plan of pesticide industry, herbicide is the key development varieties of pesticide industry in China.
Spice
In the spice industry, propionic acid can be used to produce spices such as isoamyl propionate, aryl camphor ester, geranyl propionate, ethyl propionate, benzyl propionate, etc., which can be used as spices for food, cosmetics and soap.
Pharmaceuticals
In the pharmaceutical industry, the main derivatives of propionic acid are vitamin B6, naproxen, cerebral plexin and so on. Propionic acid has a weak inhibitory effect on fungal growth both in vivo and in vitro. It can be used in the treatment of skin fungal diseases, often with zinc undecylenate and so on to form a compound preparation for external use.
